VR Group to Cut 88 Jobs After Restructuring Talks

Finland’s state-owned railway company VR Group has announced plans to reduce its workforce by 88 employees following the completion of restructuring negotiations with staff representatives.

The negotiations mainly involved the company’s logistics and maintenance divisions. According to VR, the final number of layoffs could still decrease through voluntary retirements and internal employee transfers.

When the restructuring process was first introduced, the company estimated that around 110 positions could be affected.

Alongside the layoffs, VR said some train drivers may face temporary furloughs of up to 90 days as part of broader efforts to reduce staffing costs and improve operational efficiency.

The latest cuts come after another round of restructuring talks held last year involving local train conductors. At that time, around 130 employees lost their jobs.

The company has not yet disclosed exactly when the latest workforce reductions will take effect.
