Finland’s Beaches and Lakes Ranked Among Europe’s Safest for Swimming

Taking a summer dip in Finland's lakes, rivers, and coastal waters remains a safe choice for residents and visitors alike, according to the latest European water quality assessment.
Nearly 85 percent of Finland’s public bathing sites received an "excellent" water quality rating, highlighting the country's strong environmental standards and clean natural waters. Out of 304 swimming locations evaluated, only three were classified as having poor water quality.
The report, published by the European Commission, shows that Finland continues to offer clean and reliable swimming conditions during the summer season. Across the European Union, more than 85 percent of bathing waters achieved the highest quality rating.
While countries such as Greece and Cyprus topped the European rankings, Finland maintained its position among the continent’s safest destinations for outdoor swimming and water recreation.
With thousands of lakes and an extensive coastline, Finland remains an ideal place to enjoy nature and cool off during the warm summer months.
