Body Recovered Near Helsinki Beach; Police Probe Link to Missing Indian Student

Helsinki, Finland | July 10, 2026

Finnish authorities have recovered a body from the sea near Kruunuvuorenranta beach in Helsinki, intensifying the investigation into the disappearance of an 18-year-old Indian engineering student who had been missing since early May.

According to the Finnish Coast Guard and the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI), the body was recovered during a coordinated search operation involving Helsinki Police and the Coast Guard. Officials have not yet confirmed the identity of the deceased, and forensic examinations are underway to determine whether the body is that of the missing Indian student.

Timeline of the Disappearance

Investigators said the student, who was studying engineering at Lappeenranta–Lahti University of Technology (LUT), travelled by Z train from Lahti to Helsinki on May 5.

Police confirmed that his last verified sighting was at approximately 8:00 p.m. at a K-Market in Helsinki's Kruunuvuorenranta district. No confirmed information about his movements has emerged after that point.

Investigation Continues

Authorities stressed that the investigation remains ongoing and that the cause of death and the identity of the deceased have not yet been established. The NBI has appealed to the public for any information that could assist in reconstructing the student's final movements.

The disappearance drew attention both in Finland and India, with the student's family seeking assistance after losing contact with him earlier this year.

Important note: As of now, Finnish police have not officially confirmed that the recovered body is the missing Indian student. DNA and forensic identification are still in progress. Any reports stating the identity as confirmed are premature.
