A BABY WAS BORN ABOARD A VR TRAIN

An extraordinary moment unfolded aboard a VR InterCity train on Tuesday evening, when a passenger gave birth during the journey from Helsinki to Vaasa.

A baby was born on VR’s Helsinki–Vaasa IC49 service, creating an unexpected and unforgettable moment for passengers and crew onboard.

VR described the birth as an “exceptional and joyous” event and said there are no known previous records of a baby being born on one of its trains.

According to reports, a fellow passenger helped the mother during the birth. When the train reached Seinäjoki, an ambulance was waiting to receive the newborn and mother.

VR said its staff are trained to respond to exceptional situations and that the crew handled the unexpected event calmly and professionally.

Despite the remarkable arrival, IC49 continued its journey according to schedule.

VR warmly congratulated the family on the special moment.
