Deadly mushrooms in Finland!

Deadly mushrooms in Finland!

Finland’s Five Most Poisonous Mushrooms!

Finland is home to around 50 poisonous mushroom species, but five are considered especially dangerous because they can cause life-threatening poisoning even in small amounts.

The five are:

  1. Destroying angel (Valkokärpässieni) — contains amatoxins that can cause severe liver damage.

  1. Death cap (Kavalakärpässieni) — another amatoxin-containing mushroom; rare in Finland but potentially fatal.

  1. Funeral bell (Myrkkynääpikkä) — contains amatoxins and can be mistaken for edible mushrooms.

  1. Deadly webcap (Suippumyrkkyseitikki) — contains orellanine, which can cause serious kidney damage, sometimes with symptoms appearing days after eating.

  1. False morel (Korvasieni) — poisonous when raw or inadequately processed and can cause liver damage and other severe symptoms.

Safety warning: Mushroom poisoning symptoms may be delayed, so feeling well immediately after eating an unfamiliar mushroom does not necessarily mean there is no danger. If poisoning is suspected, contact Finland’s Poison Information Center immediately and keep the mushroom or remaining sample for identification.
