Finland Warns of Dangerous Black Ice as Freezing Rain Spreads

The Finnish Meteorological Institute has issued warnings for extremely slippery conditions across large parts of the country as warmer air moves in over the coming days.
Despite rising air temperatures, surface temperatures are expected to remain below freezing, creating a high risk of black ice on roads, pavements and cycleways.
According to forecasters, widespread freezing rain, freezing drizzle and sleet are likely to develop as thawing snow meets cold ground conditions.
The most affected areas are expected to be in western and central Finland, with hazardous conditions spreading from Friday night into the weekend.
Authorities are urging motorists, cyclists and pedestrians to exercise extra caution, reduce speed and allow more time for travel, as conditions may deteriorate rapidly, particularly overnight and during early morning hours.
